Situation: Matte Painting done for the broadcast of the paris olympic games 2024, project at Globo Studios in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Task: The project consists of recreating the city of Paris in a panoramic view with 16k resolution at different times of the day, for application in Unreal Engine 5 and then displayed on an LED screen positioned in the sports journalism studios, thus bringing the city of Paris into the television with the times of day passing in real time in matte painting.
Action: created a database of original and updated images of the city of Paris, day and night. I then imported the images rendered by the 3D team into photoshop and replaced the problematic parts of the 3D with images of the original city, cutting out the details of the buildings and texturing elements such as asphalt, statues and trees. I then created daytime variations of the same image, creating a nighttime version and a cloudy one.
Result: this was my first experience developing a Matte painting for Ungreal Engine 5 and also my first work with a very high resolution, such as 16k. Despite the challenges, the result the team wanted was achieved.
